I am a professor of Urban Sustainability Governance at the National Institute for Scientific Research (INRS) in Montreal, Canada. My work focuses on how to enable more effective urban responses to climate change. As part of that, I am the lead investigator on  the first large-scale international study of the networks of governance that cities are creating to respond to climate change, conducted in partnership with ICLEI (www.urbanclimatesurvey.com).

I am also the founder of écoHackMTL, an organization that uses digital technologies to empower urban actors to create more deeply sustainable and democractic cities (www.ecohackmtl.org).

I have also worked as a consultant for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Siemens Canada and other organizations in Canada and abroad.

An updated version of my CV can be downloaded here (.pdf).   A list of my research publications can be found here.  If you have questions or comments, don't hesitate to get in touch.  You can contact me at alexander.aylett(at)ucs.inrs.ca

This is a blog for news and views on the future of sustainable cites. A major revamp is in the works. Until then I am keeping this version up as an archive of my past writing.

You can expect occasional updates, but not with the same frequency as in the past.

You can also find my writing on urban redesign and sustainability in ReNew Canada, The Mark, Sustainable Cities Canada, WorldChanging, and other more specialized academic publications.

Info on my consulting work, c.v. and current research focus is all here.
